Surrounded by her family with love, Susan Leigh Mitchell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and homemaker, went to meet Jesus on February 10, 2023. In Baltimore, Maryland, 80 years ago on February 16, 1942, this wonderful woman of God was born to her mother, Zella Elizabeth Mitchell (nèe Jewens), and father, William Henry Mitchell.
Susan graduated from Eastern High School in 1960. Soon after, she married her best friend and soulmate, Gary Wayne Mitchell (who coincidentally had the same last name but no relation). We celebrate their 57 years of marriage!
Susan was dedicated and devoted in all her endeavors. She will be remembered as an active member of Carrollton Church of God, VBS, Sunday School, Choir, Girl Scouts, Friends of Animals, and Animal Welfare League.
To her family, Susan was irreplaceable. She was a selfless caretaker at heart and enjoyed opening her home to loved ones and strangers alike. She took care of her family with joy and gladness, while also prioritizing showing God’s love and grace to everyone she encountered. We will never forget how adamant she was to attend each and every dance performance. She was our number one fan, most adoring cheerleader.
Additionally, Susan had many passions and talents. She loved to draw, bake, craft, play scrabble, sing, dance, clean, cook and watch movies. She loved animals. She loved people. She loved Jesus. She knew how to delight in the life she had been given. She knew how to live for what matters most.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Gary; her two devoted daughters, Tamala (Tamie) and Eileen; and her 7 precious grandchildren: Shyanne, Sierrah, Savanah, Sonomah, Jezreel, Zadok, and Lennox. Also, son-in-laws Cleveland and Matthew, sister Judith L. Oberdalhoff, and adored nephew Billy. She was preceded in passing by her brother, Walter E. Mitchell.
Susan will be remembered for her benevolent personality that she poured into her family and unto everyone she met. Susan has now gone on to her forever home. She will live forever in eternity and forever in our hearts.
