Sydney W. Keller of Taneytown, MD passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026, at BridgingLife, Westminster, MD. Born June 11, 1936, in Courtland, NY she was the daughter of the late Milton J. Weaver and Rosamond A. Chapin.
Sydney was a career woman who obtained her B.A., Sociology with minors in Psychology and History from St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY in 1958. In 1959 she earned Professional Certification in Religious Education from St. Lawrence University Theological Graduate School, Canton, NY. She went on to earn her M.A., Psychology in 1993, from Hood College, Frederick, MD.
Her specialty certifications and registrations included Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialist, Commission on Certification of Work Adjustment and Vocational Evaluation Specialist, Registered Practitioner with Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission, Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission Certified Rehabilitation Services Provider.
Her professional affiliations, activities and awards include, being a Charter Member of Maryland Independent Career Assessment Professionals, Special Award of Recognition from the Maryland State Division of Rehabilitation Services for development of the Career Assessment Services options concept.
She published Vocational Evaluation Work Adjustment Association’s 9th National Issues Forum, “Diversifying Vocational Evacuation/Assessment Options: A Proposed Systems Change for Maryland”. She received a National Service Award, Dick Omang Best Practices Award, Vocational Evaluation and Work Adjustment Association. She was appointed to Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services Community Rehabilitation Programs Advisory Committee and Chair to Vocation Serviced Subcommittee, a member of Frederick County Vocational/Transition from School Comprehensive Plan Committee and Treasurer, MDVEWAA.
She was a Longhair Specialty judge for Cat Fanciers Association. She produced several Grand Champion Persians, including 13th highest scoring cat U.S.A in 1976. She also raised and showed Cotswold Sheep.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie H. Selby and 4 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son Lance C. Keller and her husband Walter J. Keller.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 West Baltimore St. Taneytown.
