Thurman “Butch” Redman Strickland Jr., 78, of Taneytown, MD, passed away October 12, 2025, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. Born May 20, 1947, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Thurman R. Sr. and Edith (Soper) Strickland. Butch was the devoted husband of 52 years to Cheryl Ann (Myers) Strickland.
Butch was a Vietnam veteran, serving two years in the 101st Air Borne Division and 23 years Army National Guard Reserves. He worked for Black & Decker, as a cook for Springfield State Hospital, and volunteered for many years as a cook for Camp West Mar. He was an accomplished bowler, earning numerous tournament trophies. He also enjoyed billiards, and fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sisters, Diane, Pastor of DE, Pam and husband John Jeddry of Whitehall, MD, and Kathy and husband Joe Helfer of Baltimore.
A Funeral Service in honor of Butch will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025, 4:00 pm, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 136 E Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD 21787, with Pastor David L. Meador officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 pm, until the time of the service. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Butch’s memory to DAV – Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250, or to American Legion Post #31, 2 Sycamore Street, Westminster, MD 21157.
