Vincent Lynott, beloved father, brother, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at the age of 65, after a courageous 5-month battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Washington, D.C. on September 15, 1960, and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Paint Branch High School, and Montgomery Community College. Vince’s career included landscaping, car sales, and self-employed general contractor performing repairs and maintenance of commercial properties. Vince was a talented musician who played lead guitar, drums, and harmonica. He loved all kinds of music, especially classic rock, rockabilly, and jazz. He performed in a classic rock band for over 20 years in venues around Maryland and DC. One of his favorite memories was playing to a crowd of two thousand at the Baltimore Marathon. His passion for music was passed on to his son, James, whom he taught to play the drums.
As a young man, Vince loved boating, fishing, crabbing, and water skiing. He owned several boats and spent many weekends on the water with his wife, family, and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed golfing and was a member of a golf league with a wonderful group of guys based in Montgomery County. Vince is best known for his sense of humor and his kind warmth that others would feel immediately. He found humor in every situation and was the best storyteller. Vince was a loving and caring husband to his wife Shirley and was most proud of his son James in ways too numerous to describe.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas P. Lynott, Sr. and Mary Therese Lynott.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Lynott, son James Lynott and his wife Grace, sister Mary Therese “Terry” Lynott-Cannon and her husband Brian, brothers Thomas P. Lynott Jr. and his wife Joanna, Martin Lynott and his wife Tracy, Timothy Lynott and his wife Jennifer, Donald Lynott and his companion Becky, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Legacy Hall at the Sykesville Fire Department on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 1pm to 5pm at 6680 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD 21784. All friends and family are welcome and appreciated. In memory of Vince’s life and love, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
