Wayne A. Thorpe

Wayne A. Thorpe, 85, of Keymar, Maryland, passed away on September 17, 2026, at his residence. Born on July 8, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Mary and Linwood Thorpe. He was married to his first wife and the mother of his children, Patricia (Pat) Thorpe, for 41 years prior to her passing. He later married Debbie Thorpe, with whom he shared 19 years until his passing.

Wayne was the cherished father of Tracey Cohen, Kim Alexander and her husband Michael, David Thorpe, and Melissa Cox and her husband RC; caring stepfather of Robert Lytton and his wife Nikki Quan; cherished grandfather of Ashley, Amanda, Courtney, Erik, Abby, Kylee, and Bella; loving great-grandfather of Michael, Mckenzie, Brooke, Aubrey, William, and Dylan; and dear great-great-grandfather of Walker, Bradley, and Baby Boy on the Way. The youngest of 14 children, Wayne is also survived by his sister-in-law Cheryl Triplett and her husband "Beanie."

Born and raised in Baltimore, Wayne spent most of his career as a driver. He began as a milkman for High’s Dairy and went on to work for many years as a medical courier for Maryland General Hospital, Frederick Memorial Hospital, Dean's Dental Lab, and Indivumed Services. 

His love of driving extended beyond his career, and he especially enjoyed long drives along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. When he was not driving, he loved taking train rides. A highlight was serving as "Conductor for the Day," where he drove the Colebrookdale Train down the track and back to the station. He also loved riding the historical Cass Scenic Railroad in West Virginia. 

Wayne was an avid billiards player and a member of the American Poolplayers Association (APA). He was also a life member of the Sons of AMVETS. Additionally, he was a devoted fan of classic cowboy movies, particularly those starring Roy Rogers and John Wayne—owning a copy of every movie John Wayne ever appeared in. 

A memorial service will be held at the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company (39 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD 21787) on Sunday, September 27, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne’s memory to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or the American Liver Foundation.
