Wayne Eugene Sanders, 80, of Emmitsburg, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 22, 1945, in Waynesboro, PA., he was the son of the late George Roy and Erma Virginia (Null) Sanders.
Wayne is survived by children; David Brian Sanders, Dana Lee Hance, Tina Michelle Mumm, and Dwayne Troy Sanders and wife, Ann Elizabeth, and grandchildren; Damian Sanders-Baron, Crystal Rose, and Amber Sanders, Brian, and Robert Jr. Hance, Kenneth Parker, and Arielle E. Mumm. Wayne was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Catherine Rose Sanders, sons-in-law; Robert Francis Hance, and Wesley J. Mumm, and siblings; James Henry, and David A. Sanders.
Wayne was a lifelong resident of Emmitsburg, having been raised on his family’s dairy farm and working there well into his adulthood. After high school, Wayne attended business classes at Mount St. Mary’s University. He also obtained a private pilot license and flew for several years. In December 1965, he married Terry Todd, with whom he raised four children and was later blessed with seven grandchildren. At the time of his passing, he was employed by RR Donnelley in Thurmont, and had worked in previous years at the Cambridge Rubber Shoe Factory, Black and Decker, and Jubilee Foods. Wayne was an accomplished musician and singer, and formed a rhythm and blues band called Dwayne and the Sounds. The band played many local venues throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He also had an avid interest in history and would often share interesting facts with family. Wayne’s outlook on life was to embrace all the ups and downs that came his way and to “make a plan and work around it.”
The greatest joys of his life were his children and grandchildren, who lovingly called him Pappy. Wayne’s legacy will be his deep love and dedication to family and his service to those in need. A servant of God, a musician and farmer at heart, and a true gentleman! He will be loved and missed always.
