William Charles "Bill" Hoy

William Charles “Bill” Hoy, age 81 died at BridgingLife (Dove House), Westminster on Friday, September 22, 2023. Born April 11, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of William Homer and Lillie Luzealua Hoy. He was the loving husband of Virginia Hoy for 55 years.

Known to many who loved him as “Pappy”, Bill was a Vietnam veteran, proudly serving in the US Army from 1964 until 1969. Post military, he worked as a land surveyor until retiring. Once retired, he continued in the workforce as a local school bus driver. Also included in his “career” was the joy of being a great Santa for many a child’s holiday.

Bill was an avid family man who enjoyed horseback riding with his wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and working his crossword puzzles.  Living on a small farm, Bill was fond of many different animals. Especially picking up and showing off any snake he could find.  He was the person who would help without hesitation, willing to give even the shirt off his back if it was needed.

Besides his wife Virginia he was survived by daughters, Michele Wilson of Taneytown and Beth Haynes and husband Chuck of Fairfield PA; grandchildren, Charlie and Mary Haynes, Holly South, Mark Jr., Rob and Chris Weibe, Chase, Nick, Adam, and Ben Wilson, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Bill was predeceased by son, Thomas Harry, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E Baltimore Street., Taneytown MD, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 28 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 3006 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg, MD at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. William L. Piel officiating.

Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 2800 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg MD.
