James Jones Obituary

            James Russell “Jimmy” Jones, 79, of Hanover, PA died peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Born April 5, 1939 in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Arthur and Alice (Willar) Jones.  He was the husband of Kathy (Horn) Jones.

            Jimmy was a carpenter by trade.  He worked for Gettysburg Construction and Hostetter Construction.  He was a member of VFW Post 6658 in Emmitsburg and Post 15 in Gettysburg, American Legion Post 202 in Gettysburg and Post 262 in Biglerville, AMVETS Post 172 in Fairfield, the Moose Lodge in McSherrystown and the Blue Ridge Sportsman’s Club.  He enjoyed hunting and watching NASCAR races.  In his younger years, he enjoyed racing motorcycles.

            Surviving, in addition to his wife Kathy, are his sister, Holly Liller and her husband Robert of Taneytown; step-children, Susie Laughman and husband Amos of Hanover, John Bucher of California, and Kim Brenneman and husband James of Sykesville; step-grandchildren, Kayla, Tiffani and Donnie, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Jimmy was predeceased by his first wife, Claire Jones; his companion, Peggy Griffith; and a brother, Lee Jones.

            A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Rd., Hanover, PA with the Msgr. James M. Lyons as celebrant. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 25th at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jimmy’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
