John Perry Obituary

John Henry Perry, 86, of Taneytown, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 at his home.  Born January 22, 1935 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mae (Unger) Perry.  He was the devoted husband of Marilyn Diane (Thomas) Perry, his wife of over 64 years.

John was a graduate of Taneytown High School, class of ’54.  While in school, he worked in his father’s building and contracting business, Perry Building Supply, in Taneytown.  He and his wife Diane were married December 22, 1956.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1957 to 1966.  When his father retired, John went into business for himself, naming his company John H. Perry and Sons.  Then when John retired, the business was taken over by his oldest son, William “Denny” Perry, with the help of his brothers.  The company remains in business today.

John was member of Grace United Church of Christ, and was a life-long member of the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company, serving over 60 years.  He was involved in all of the fire company activities, doing all that was asked of him, including the banquets and carnivals.  One of his favorite hobbies was going to casinos with his wife and sons and several of his friends and family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife Diane, are sons, William R. Perry and companion Judy Wantz of Keymar, John H. Perry III and wife Tracy, and Samuel T. Perry and wife Jamie, all of Taneytown; sisters, Mabel Perry Stewart and husband John, and Jane Perry Lawrence and husband Jim of Taneytown; brother, Dwight Perry and wife Eleanor, of Taneytown; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Perry Stonesifer in 1999.

A Fire Company Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23rd at Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7301 Keysville Rd., Keymar, MD.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24th at the church.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  A private graveside service, for family only, will be held at Grace UCC Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown,
