Julia Ann Wantz, 83, life-long resident of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born on August 23, 1935 in Taneytown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Wilson and Thelma Eleanora (Sell) Becker. She was the wife of 59 years to the late Karl Bixler Wantz who predeceased her in 2012.
Julia worked for 29 years for C & P Telephone Company starting as an operator and retired as an engineer in 1992. She was a life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown and was the Treasurer of the Quilting group. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She enjoyed her pet cat “Tessie”, quilting, and camping trips around the country with her husband.
Surviving are son, Karl Daniel “Danny” Wantz and wife Bonnie of Taneytown; daughters, Karen Ann Paulsen of Hanover, PA, and Laura Dawn Wantz Richards and husband Raymond of Taneytown; grandchildren, Keith, Paul, and Zachary Wantz, April Long, Richard Angell, II, Kristina Paulsen, Nicole Allen, Benjamin Johnson, Tracie Konigsbauer, and Jordan Stahley; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Patsy Swartzbaugh of Taneytown; sisters-in-law, Shirley Unger of Frizzellburg and Bonnie Becker of FL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by grandsons, Eric Wantz and Timothy Angell; and brother, Charles Becker.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown with her Pastor the Rev. Cristopher Frigm officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 7th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Trinity Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD 21787.
